When the topic of the communication department came up as a
topic for my blog I felt that I would have a tough time writing about it. But, what
I realized is that communication studies is the only area where I really showed
interest. When I came to college I had no clue what to do in terms of choosing
a major and minor, but the my communications teachers throughout my GE classes
really cleared my mind. I had two very good teachers for Comm 20 and Comm
40. Those two teachers were able to
really influence me into making communications my major. I learned a lot about
the department and how it works as well as the professors and their methods of
teaching. I am really happy with my decision now; I feel that the teachers who I
have had have been really flexible in terms of meeting with them and
interacting. Something that I have
noticed also is that my professors really take interest in knowing me as a
person rather then as a student. We talk about issues in our world as well as
communicating in daily life. I feel like I might not be able to build as
positive of relationships in other departments and that is why I’m very content
with my decision to choose the communications department as my major.
I completely agree with you DJ. That is one reason I love communication studies. I have had some amazing professors, even at the community college level back home in San Diego. I still talk to two of them and meet up with them when I go home for breaks. Being in communication studies you get to have real discussions with your teachers and form a relationship.
ReplyDeleteI agree with you! I feel like the professors in the Comm. department are very helpful and effective in their teaching. I believe it's partly due to the fact that they are very understanding of people because of their backgrounds in communication. A lot of my professors take time to develop relationships with the students in order to communicate the course work effectively and really help each individual student do their best.
ReplyDeleteI agree with you, I really enjoy my communication studies department. I like how helpful the professors are and the relationship they build with students. Also, the topics discussed in workshops and class are very interesting and build my interest more in them.
